Okay so Little 5 weekend is actually here! I never thought I would see the end to this school year, and it’s finally coming to a close. I’m actually writing this as I sit alone in my dorm…wishing I could go out, however, a lab report stands in my way. I’ve been trying really hard not to let partying get in the way of my school work, but it’s more like school is getting in the way of my partying! I have come to terms with the fact that life is not always a party, so I just have to suck it up and get my last lab report done before the races this weekend. The weather this week has been absolutely beautiful…perfect for Little 5 week, however, I heard it’s supposed to rain this weekend? I mean, that’s not going to get in the way of the festivities, but it would be ideal to be dry at the track. I am so pleased as a freshman to say that my first year at IU is nearly over, and my first Little 5 week was a success. Last year, as a senior, I came down with some friends just for Saturday. I thought that I had experienced Little 500, and I liked it, but I was not really seeing what the fuss was all about. Now….I know. And I cannot wait until next year
Tips for Race day (or anyday…)
1. Dress appropriately for the weather…you have no idea what is going to happen out there in this Indiana weather, so you should probably bring a poncho. Don’t worry about looking stupid…everyone will be too drunk to care.
2. Wear sunscreen. Seriously, there is nothing worse than a tacky burn line on someone’s arms, or even worse, their face. SPF 30 should do the trick.
3. Be careful about how much you’ve been drinking. If it is indeed sunny outside, your body will turn against you…and you’ll find yourself too drunk to act cool around those cops…
4. Speaking of cops…if one smiles or looks at you, that doesn’t mean that they want to arrest you or get you in trouble. Chances are they hate drunk people and don’t want to have to have anything to do with you, or they were in your shoes x number of years ago. If you’re belligerent, it’s happening. But act like a normal person, and treat them like normal people too.
Have fun. Be safe. Happy Little 5!
See you at the races!
